Lent is a special time for Christians. At Heavitree we are keeping it special in these ways:
Healing. The Monday evening Mass at 7pm will include the ministry of healing each week. This ministry is first of all hands laid on a person’s head with prayer for healing, then anointing with the oil of healing on the forehead and the hands.
Prayer. The Bishop of Exeter has asked us to grow in prayer as one of his three priorities for church life in his diocese (the other two are making new disciples, and serving the people with joy.) For four Wednesdays in Lent we shall be concentrating on prayer
28th Feb – Silent Prayer
7th March – Praying for others
14th March – Praying with the church (an introduction to Morning and Evening prayer and to praying the Mass.)
21st March – Quiet Evening. 90 minutes in church, two short addresses and silence.
Anyone is welcome to any of these evening, in church at 7.30pm.
Stations of the Cross. Four Fridays, 23rd February, 2nd March, 9th March and 16th March at 7pm. Stations is a simple way of praying while meditating on the last journey of Jesus, from being condemned to death to being crucified and then to the tomb.
Ecumenical services. Each Wednesday in Lent there will be a simple service in a local church, followed by a light lunch and a collection for the Foodbank. Each service begins at 12 noon. 21st Feb at URC church; 28th at Blessed Sacrament Church; 7th March at St Lawrence’s; 14th March at Wonford Methodist Church; 21st March at St Michael’s.
